Happy 50th Birthday Christie Museum!!

Help the Christie Home get their much-needed new roof!!
Support our Go Fund Me!       (Click here - Thank you!)

Our goal is to preserve the home and maintain as much of its original character as possible. Our current priorities include a new roof, restoration of the original windows and historic wallpaper, as well as ongoing repairs and day-to-day upkeep.
Preserving the Christie Home is about protecting an authentic piece of Long Prairie and Minnesota history so that future generations can continue to experience and learn from this special place.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about the Christie Home Museum and our efforts to preserve this special piece of Long Prairie history.
If you are considering donating, sharing our fundraiser, or simply spreading the word, we would be incredibly grateful for your support. Every contribution and every share can help us protect the Christie Home and its original character for generations to come. Thank you for helping us preserve a piece of our community’s history.

Christie Home Historical Society was formed.

THANK YOU to all the original members for having the
vision of what it could be today!

THANK YOU to the community for supporting us!

"You've come a long way, baby!"

Founded in 1976, the Christie Home Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of knowledge pertaining to the Christie Home, the Long Prairie area, and the state of Minnesota.

The house, built in Queen Anne Style in 1901, was home to Dr. George R. Christie, Sr, and his family from 1901 - 1976, at which time Dr. Robert Christie, last resident of the home, passed away.   The remaining family donated the home to the city of Long Prairie, with the condition that it be maintained as a museum and be open to the public.   The home was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

According to the State Historical Society, the property is unique because the home has remained unchanged over the years.   Only the Christie family lived here, and the furnishings and artifacts displayed are original to them.

In 2025 the name was changed to Christie Home Museum, but our mission remains the same.

The Christie House is located just one block east of Highway 71 on Central Ave, Long Prairie, MN.

If you have questions or inquiries related to anything other than a historical tour of the house please direct all your questions to our email at [email protected].

 2026 is looking great!
Some repairs have been done in the house.  We've found a "new" old post card from 1911.

Our tour guide Reta has been going through old newspapers and has found several interesting articles about the Christie doctors.

All this information adds to the uniqueness of the Christie Home Museum and your experience when you tour.

We look forward to seeing you this summer!

The Christie house and carriage house have undergone extensive (and expensive) facelifts.  Windows were repaired and sealed, rotted wood replaced, and everything primed and painted!

Your attendance for tours and events supports the upkeep of this amazing
gem and helps keep her sparkling for future generations to enjoy!

Donations are always welcome!

More sad news to report in 2022.  Dirk Christie, son of George West Christie, II, and great grandson of Dr. George R. and Susan Christie passed away on Feb. 12, 2022.  Click to view his obituary.

We're sad to report that George West Christie II passed away July 19, 2021 at the age of 99.  George was the grandson of Dr. George R. Christie and Susan West Christie.   Click to view his obituary.

Blue sky and sunshine! The jet over the house makes one pause to think - this house was built 2 years before the Wright brothers flew their first plane at Kittyhawk!   And who would have thought, at the time this house was built, that the house would one day be associated with one of the greatest aviators ever, Charles Lindbergh, whose solo flight across the Atlantic on May 20, 1927 made history.

The "new" Christie home was built in 1901.  Edith died in Nov. 1902, thus we know that this photo was taken within that one year window.
Note the hammock on the porch and wooden sidewalks!
The house in the background is the "old" Christie home, where they lived in the years prior to construction of the new home.                                  That house was removed in the 1970's  and the area is now a parking lot.
